Canadian Aquatic Rehab
About the Organization
Canadian Aquatic Rehab (CAR) is Canada’s leading provider of aquatic therapy continuing education. Established in 2011, CAR filled a critical gap in the Canadian healthcare landscape by offering evidence-based training in aquatic physical therapy—an essential rehabilitation tool that harnesses the unique properties of water to restore movement and function. CAR courses are designed for healthcare professionals seeking advanced aquatic therapy techniques grounded in physics, fluid mechanics, and the latest clinical research.
Founder
CAR was founded by Alison Bonnyman, BScPT, MScRS, a pioneering clinician and educator with over 40 years of experience in public and private rehabilitation. Alison’s career spans clinical practice with diverse populations, therapeutic pool design consultation, international speaking engagements, and published research in osteoporosis, neurology, and adapted aquatics. Driven by her passion for water-based rehabilitation, Alison studied internationally to bring aquatic therapy knowledge back to Canada and remains a tireless advocate for community pool accessibility.
Purpose
CAR exists to teach and promote aquatic therapy as a powerful clinical tool. Through in-depth, evidence-informed training, CAR empowers healthcare professionals to apply aquatic therapy principles effectively and safely to support rehabilitation and wellness across the lifespan.

Vision
To ensure people of all ages and abilities have access to the healing potential of water. CAR envisions a future where aquatic therapy is a standard, evidence-based component of rehabilitation in every Canadian community.
